Thailand’s ETDA Expands SMEs GROWTH 2026 Programme to Accelerate AI Adoption
Thailand’s Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) has opened applications for the third year of the SMEs GROWTH 2026 programme, an initiative designed to help small and medium-sized enterprises adopt artificial intelligence (AI) and digital tools. The nationwide programme combines business assessments, training, and technology matching to strengthen competitiveness and reduce operating costs. According to ETDA’s announcement, activities will take place across four regions of Thailand, targeting key sectors including retail, tourism and manufacturing.
Nationwide Programme Focused on Digital Capability
ETDA, under Thailand’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, aims to strengthen the role of SMEs in the country’s digital economy by helping businesses integrate technology into everyday operations. SMEs remain a central driver of Thailand’s economic activity, but many face rising competition and rapidly changing consumer behaviour.
The initiative aligns with broader national efforts to expand digital capabilities and infrastructure, which are increasingly shaping economic development and innovation across the country, as highlighted in discussions on Thailand’s digital infrastructure growth and innovation strategy.
Regional Roadshows Across 16 Provinces
The SMEs GROWTH 2026 programme will be delivered through regional roadshows covering four regions and 16 provinces. Each region will focus on sectors with strong local economic potential.
- Northern region: Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Nakhon Sawan and Phitsanulok, with a focus on retail and tourism services.
- North-eastern region: Khon Kaen, Buriram, Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani, concentrating on the retail sector.
- Eastern region: Chonburi, Rayong, Chachoengsao and Chanthaburi, targeting industrial and tourism-related businesses.
- Southern region: Songkhla, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Yala and Krabi, supporting retail and service sectors.
The programme focuses on three main business groups: retail enterprises, service businesses such as tourism and hospitality, and industrial manufacturing firms.
Training, Digital Tools and Expert Advisory
Participating SMEs will receive a structured set of services aimed at strengthening business operations and encouraging practical technology adoption.
- SMEs Check-up: Business readiness assessments designed to identify strengths and areas for development.
- Train and Coach workshops: Practical training focused on applying AI, understanding digital trends and building relevant digital skills.
- Solution matching and digital tools: Opportunities to test digital solutions and connect with technology providers.
- SMEs Clinic and networking: Advisory sessions with industry experts and opportunities to build partnerships.
- E-certification and programme benefits: Participants will receive electronic certificates and access to additional support opportunities.
Building on Earlier Economic Outcomes
The initiative builds on outcomes from earlier programme rounds. ETDA reports that previous activities generated more than THB 639 million in regional economic value and facilitated 55 business matching partnerships.
By combining digital training, technology access and advisory support, the programme aims to help SMEs reduce operational costs while creating opportunities for revenue growth. The approach reflects wider policy efforts that emphasise the role of technology and data in supporting sustainable development and economic resilience, as explored in analysis of Thailand’s use of technology and data for sustainable development.
ETDA has opened applications to SMEs operating for at least one year across the four targeted regions. Applications will be accepted until 15 May 2026.
