Singapore Refreshes Digital Plan to Guide Food Manufacturers on Technology Adoption

Uncategorized

Singapore has launched a refreshed Food Manufacturing Industry Digital Plan to support more than 1,500 food manufacturers in adopting digital technologies and improving productivity. The updated plan provides structured guidance for firms at different stages of digital maturity, reflecting the government’s wider push to strengthen industrial resilience and competitiveness. The announcement was made at the opening of a new factory operated by soya sauce and condiments manufacturer Kwong Cheong Thye.

The refreshed plan was jointly launched by Enterprise Singapore and the Infocomm Media Development Authority, and was announced by Ms Low Yen Ling, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth. Further details were published in the official media release on the Enterprise Singapore website.

Structured guidance for different stages of digital readiness

The Food Manufacturing Industry Digital Plan is designed to help companies identify appropriate digital solutions based on their operational needs and level of readiness. By setting out recommended technologies and implementation pathways, the plan aims to reduce uncertainty for small and medium-sized manufacturers that may lack in-house digital expertise.

This approach aligns with broader national efforts to modernise manufacturing through human-centric and technology-enabled processes, as outlined in Singapore’s move towards Industry 5.0. For food manufacturers, digital adoption is increasingly seen as a practical means to improve traceability, quality control, and resource efficiency.

Supporting productivity and long-term resilience

The refreshed plan reflects the government’s assessment that digital capabilities are becoming essential for maintaining competitiveness in a tight labour market and an increasingly complex global operating environment. For the food manufacturing sector, technology adoption can also help firms respond more effectively to regulatory requirements and shifting consumer expectations.

The initiative sits alongside wider investments in advanced manufacturing capabilities and innovation, including developments in automation and applied research across Singapore’s industrial base. These efforts contribute to strengthening the country’s position within regional and global value chains, complementing related strategies to deepen manufacturing capabilities and resilience.
