Mumbai Camp Expands Registration for India’s Jiyo Parsi Population Support Scheme

Uncategorized

A special facilitation camp in Mumbai has recorded strong participation in a universal Parsi registration drive organised by India’s Ministry of Minority Affairs in collaboration with the Bombay Parsi Panchayat. According to an official government release, around 300 new registrations were completed on the Jiyo Parsi portal during the event, reflecting growing community engagement with the government’s initiative to address the declining population of Parsis in India.

The campaign aims to expand awareness and enrolment in the Jiyo Parsi scheme, a central sector initiative launched in the 2013–14 financial year. The programme focuses on stabilising and increasing the Parsi population through structured interventions, including medical support, community assistance, and awareness initiatives.

Community Participation Strengthens Registration Efforts

The special camp was designed to make the registration process more accessible to members of the Parsi community. By enabling on-site enrolment on the Jiyo Parsi portal, organisers aimed to increase participation and improve outreach among eligible beneficiaries.

Officials noted that initiatives combining community outreach with digital platforms reflect broader public-sector efforts to modernise service delivery. Similar approaches can be seen in wider national programmes where digital platforms are being integrated with public health and welfare services, such as those highlighted in India’s expanding digital health ecosystem.

Support Measures Under the Jiyo Parsi Scheme

The Jiyo Parsi programme provides targeted support designed to address demographic challenges facing the community. The scheme combines medical, financial, and awareness measures intended to support families and encourage population growth.

  • Medical assistance: Support for fertility treatments and pregnancy-related care.
  • Community health support: Financial assistance for childcare and the care of dependent elderly family members.
  • Outreach and counselling: Awareness campaigns, counselling services, and community engagement initiatives.

These measures are designed to address social and health-related barriers that may affect family planning decisions within the community. The programme reflects a broader policy emphasis on combining healthcare support, targeted funding, and outreach to address demographic challenges.

Government Encourages Wider Community Engagement

During the event, Shyama Prasad Roy, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Minority Affairs, reaffirmed the government’s continued commitment to the welfare of the Parsi community. He encouraged eligible beneficiaries to take advantage of the scheme and urged registered participants to share feedback to help strengthen implementation.

The strong turnout at the Mumbai camp indicates increasing awareness and trust in the initiative. Such engagement is seen as important not only for programme uptake but also for preserving the cultural and demographic heritage of the Parsi community in India. The initiative aligns with wider government efforts to improve public services through administrative and digital reforms, similar to those discussed in India’s broader digital reform agenda and initiatives exploring how digital tools and AI are transforming healthcare services.
