Hanoi Introduces Digital Election Map Ahead of 2026 National Assembly Vote
Hanoi authorities have introduced a digital map to support public access to election information ahead of Vietnam’s National Assembly and People’s Council elections scheduled for 15 March 2026. The initiative forms part of wider efforts to strengthen transparency, improve voter communication, and advance digital transformation in election administration. Alongside the new platform, national regulations have confirmed standard voting hours, with limited flexibility for local conditions.
The digital map initiative was reported by VietnamPlus and reflects a broader policy direction to embed digital tools into public services, consistent with Vietnam’s longer-term approach to digital government and administrative modernisation.
Digital tools to support voter access and transparency
The digital map has been developed by the Hanoi chapter of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to provide voters with consolidated information on the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and the Hanoi People’s Council for the 2026–2031 term. By centralising data in a digital format, the platform is intended to make election-related information easier to access across the city.
The initiative aligns with Vietnam’s broader push to apply information technology across public administration, as outlined in national digital transformation priorities. Similar approaches are evident in other sectors, including public service delivery and economic management, as discussed in Vietnam’s digital transformation agenda.
Officials see digital platforms as a practical way to improve communication with citizens, reduce information gaps, and support more informed participation in civic processes. In the electoral context, this includes providing timely updates and consistent information to voters in advance of polling day.
Confirmed voting hours for 15 March 2026
The National Election Council has set election day for deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels on 15 March 2026. Under current regulations, voting will take place nationwide from 7.00 am to 7.00 pm on the same day.
Local Election Committees may adjust these hours to reflect specific conditions. Voting may begin earlier, but not before 5.00 am, or conclude later, provided it does not extend beyond 9.00 pm. These provisions are intended to ensure accessibility while maintaining consistency across constituencies.
Digital government as a continuing policy direction
The use of a digital election map reflects a wider shift towards data-driven governance and online public engagement in Vietnam. Comparable digital initiatives are being rolled out across sectors such as agriculture and financial services, reinforcing the government’s emphasis on technology-enabled administration and service delivery.
As Vietnam continues to expand digital platforms in the public sector, initiatives such as the election map illustrate how technology is being applied to support transparency, citizen participation, and operational efficiency, consistent with the country’s longer-term digital government objectives.
