Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will restructure the Klang Valley KTM Komuter timetable on the Pulau Sebang–Batu Caves–Pulau Sebang route beginning 18 April. The adjustment is intended to support infrastructure works under the Klang Valley Electric Double Track Project Phase 2 (KVDT2), which covers the rail corridor between Salak Selatan and Seremban. According to a Bernama report, the changes are designed to allow track upgrading to proceed safely while maintaining essential passenger and freight services.
The works form part of a broader effort to modernise Malaysia’s rail infrastructure and improve long‑term service reliability across the Klang Valley. Rail upgrades are a key element of the country’s wider transport modernisation agenda, which includes initiatives highlighted in Malaysia’s digital and sustainable transport strategy aimed at improving mobility, efficiency and environmental performance.
Infrastructure upgrades drive schedule adjustments
KTMB said the timetable revision is necessary to facilitate upgrading works along a 67‑kilometre stretch of track. The project involves improvements to rail infrastructure, signalling systems and track conditions to strengthen the safety, stability and operational efficiency of the network.
During the construction period, train services on the affected sections will operate using a single‑track system. This arrangement allows both passenger and freight operations to continue while sections of track are upgraded.
Changes to KTM Komuter service frequency
The revised timetable will remain in place throughout the project period, which is expected to run until the end of December 2026. KTMB stated that peak‑hour services on the Pulau Sebang–Batu Caves–Pulau Sebang route will be adjusted to five trains, operating at intervals of approximately 15 to 30 minutes during the morning and evening commuter periods.
During the daytime construction window, KTM Komuter services will not operate between 10 am and 4 pm on the Midvalley–Pulau Sebang and Pulau Sebang–Bandar Tasik Selatan sections. These temporary suspensions are intended to allow track work to proceed more efficiently.
In addition, the rail corridor between Salak Selatan and Seremban stations will be fully closed from 10 pm to 6 am each day. This overnight closure will enable maintenance and infrastructure upgrading activities to be carried out more intensively.
Adjusted ETS intercity services
The restructuring also affects two Electric Train Service (ETS) operations on the JB Sentral–KL Sentral–JB Sentral route. Train EP9530, previously numbered EP9536, will depart JB Sentral at 3 pm and arrive at KL Sentral at 7.20 pm.
Meanwhile, train EP9535, previously EP9537, will depart KL Sentral at 8 pm and arrive at JB Sentral at 12.20 am. Other ETS services and KTM Cargo operations are expected to continue as scheduled.
Part of wider mobility modernisation efforts
Rail network upgrades such as KVDT2 are part of a broader effort to improve Malaysia’s transport infrastructure and support more integrated mobility systems. Other national initiatives include projects exploring advanced technologies for transport and logistics, such as those highlighted in Selangor’s work on physical AI for mobility and robotics.
KTMB has advised passengers to plan their journeys in advance and review updated schedules through its official website, social media channels or the KTMB Call Centre for the latest service information.
