Authorities in Hanoi are expanding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to support traffic management and enforcement across the capital. A network of nearly 2,000 AI-enabled cameras has identified more than 19,300 traffic violations since it began operating on 13 December 2025, according to a VietnamPlus report. Officials say the system is helping address congestion hotspots while strengthening compliance with road safety regulations.
AI Surveillance Supports Traffic Enforcement
The AI-powered surveillance system forms part of broader efforts to modernise urban traffic management in Hanoi. Installed at key intersections and transport corridors, the cameras automatically detect violations such as illegal lane changes, running red lights and other breaches of road safety rules.
Data collected by the cameras is transmitted to traffic police systems for verification and enforcement. Authorities report that the technology has already helped identify more than 19,300 violations, providing additional evidence to support penalties and encouraging greater compliance among drivers.

AI-generated videos, often created using deepfake techniques, can closely mimic real people and events, making manipulated content difficult to detect.
Viewers are encouraged to watch for visual inconsistencies, unnatural facial movements and irregular lighting or audio synchronisation when assessing whether a video may have been generated or altered by AI. Strengthening public awareness is increasingly important as digital content circulates widely across online platforms.
Vietnam has also introduced measures aimed at strengthening the country’s digital resilience. Policy initiatives such as the national cybersecurity enforcement plan seek to enhance oversight of online activities and protect citizens from emerging digital threats. In parallel, international cooperation on technology governance and security, including regional technology partnerships, is helping to build shared approaches to safeguarding digital ecosystems.
